EXCLUSIVE TOURS

Exclusive Tours operates from Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa and conducts exclusive tours to the Addo Elephant National Park.

Brian Bateman (Tour Guide Reg. EC1667) is the owner of Exclusive Tours and has been visiting Addo Elephant National Park for over 30 years.

Brian has a passion for the area and has an extensive knowledge of the Fauna and Flora of Addo Elephant National Park. A keen birder and a member of the local Tree Society, Brian loves to impart his knowledge onto others.

Addo Elephant National Park

The Addo Elephant National Park is the third largest National Park in South Africa and is over 300 000 hectares in size.  It is also the only game reserve in the world to offer the “Big Seven”.

This consists of the normal Big Five that includes the Lion, Cape Buffalo, Black Rhinoceros, African Elephant and Leopard but also includes the Humpback Whale and the Great White Shark.

A substantial part of the Park covers Algoa Bay and particularly the two clusters of islands found in the bay.  It is in this area that you can expect to find the whales and the sharks.

Apart from the Big Seven, Addo, as it is known locally, offers a very diverse range of animals from the rare Flightless Dung Beetle to the ubiquitous Burchell’s Zebra and from the beautiful Malachite Sunbird to the clumsy Leopard Tortoise.

The dominant biome in the Addo Elephant National Park is Valley Bushveld which features very thick bush with an incredible range of plants.  These include the world famous, carbon absorbing Spekboom. It takes a trained eye to find some of the well camouflaged game in this dense vegetation.

What makes Addo a must see destination are the Elephants. There is no other place on the planet where you are able to view wild African Elephants at such close proximity. Addo is the only game reserve in the world where Elephants are not hunted, poached or culled and thus they have no fear of man.

It is quite possible to view over 200 Elephants at a single water hole and to have an elephant walk within just a few centimetres of your vehicle.

It is Brian’s knowledge of the National Park and his understanding of the habits of the Elephants that can make such an experience possible.
